Last Saturday, the Cornaredo Stadium was filled with loyal fans who came despite the pouring rain. Lugano faced St. Gallen, and the conditions were anything but ideal. Yet, the home team remained unfazed and delivered an impressive performance.
The first half was characterized by strong tackles. Both teams were relentless. Hüseyin Mahmoud had several promising chances but failed to beat the strong opposing goalkeeper. Just before halftime, it was Mattia Bottani who scored the opening goal in the 40th minute. The fans erupted in joy as the rain continued to pour.
After the break, FC St. Gallen came back stronger, pushing for an equalizer. However, the defense led by E. Alioski remained solid and allowed very little through. With precise passes and quick transitions, Lugano extended their lead to 2-0 in the 80th minute through Ahmadou Ndiaye. The home side ultimately triumphed 2-1, securing valuable points in the title chase.
